Happy Valentine's Day

The loves of my life

Well, this is our first Valentine's Day as parents. We have always been the type of sicking romantic couples who love celebrating Valentine's Day. So we are going to attempt to have a romantic dinner. I have always loved dating my husband, but it is funny to me that now that Myles is a part of our lives I treasure those couple moments even more. This Valentine's Day is also more meaningful to me this year because I now understand a whole new level of love. Welcoming Myles into our family has only served to intensify my feelings for Eric and it has introduced us both to a kind of love that we didn't know excisted. The love that we have for our son is amazing! What a true gift. Several years ago we decided to make dinner at home for Valentine's day. We had a great time. No lines, no rushing, a private table next to the fire, it's awesome. So we are doing it again. We move our kitchen table into the living room. We turn on the fireplace and indulge in amazing food. Eric and I are food geeks. I know it may seem dorky, but we love food. We love reading about food, watching shows about food, looking at food stores, and of course eating food. So we have fun planning a menu and cooking dinner together. I hate to admit it, but Eric is probably better at this than I am. But, we'll call it a team effort. Tonight the menu consists of: Salad with warm bacon dressing, lentil apple soup, Tuscan- style cauliflower, mashed potato casserole, garlic flatbread, beef tenderloin with two sauces and flourless chocolate fantasy. Yes, there will only be the two of us eating. You now know why we have to run so much! We started preparing a few days ago, and tonight after Myles goes to bed (hopefully) we will try to have a romantic dinner. Sure, it will be a little different than previous years. There will be a pack and play/changing table in the corner of the room, we will be serenaded by the intercom playing the sounds of the "womb recreated", and yes I will have to pump before going to bed (how romantic, I know) but somehow this new stage in our life seems right, different, but amazing!

Speaking of different, I have big news. No Mom, I am not pregnant. I moved the funiture in my living room. For those of you who know me at all, you know that this is a HUGE deal! It signifies a big breakthrough for me. I hate change, and I actually did this of my own free will (with only a little nudging from my mother). It looks really good, and I actually really like it. It is much more condusive to Myles being able to play and to comfortably having people over. Maybe God is using this little bundle of joy to help me learn to be OK with change and to adapt, just hopefully not too much.

Myles tried fruit for the first time this week. The first fruit he sampled was applesauce, homemade by Great Grandma and Grandpa Korte who actually grew the apples themselves.

He also added bannanas to his repertoire. As of this week, I think Myles is officially a sitter. It is so fun to watch him learn new things. On Tuesday morning we ventured out to the Book Nibblers group at the library. It's a great group for little ones under two. Myles was the hit of the show. We was wildly animated and so excited to see so many other kids. He loved the songs and jumped excitedly through the whole thing. He was pretty tuckered out by the time we headed home.
